Pact International Tanzania is offering a unique opportunity to join its team as Project Director for an exciting initiative to combat child labor and promote acceptable working conditions in Tanzania’s Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector. Pact works with local communities and partners, ensuring that solutions are driven by the people who benefit from them.
The Role:
The Project Director will spearhead the implementation of a high-impact project funded by the US Department of Labor (DOL). The primary goal is to enhance the enforcement of laws, policies, and action plans that address child labor while promoting safe and acceptable working conditions in Tanzania’s gold mining sector. Key Responsibilities:
Manage Project Execution: Lead the coordination of activities among various project partners, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with overall project goals.
Ensure Compliance: Work closely with Pact’s Regional Director, finance team, and U.S. counterparts to guarantee that all project operations adhere to both U.S. government regulations and Pact’s internal policies.
Strategic Oversight: Oversee the planning, budgeting, monitoring, and reporting of all project activities. This includes developing work plans, reviewing financial and technical reports, and ensuring the efficient use of donor resources.
Team Leadership: Provide guidance to a highly adaptable team and foster a context-driven approach that responds effectively to challenges in the field.

Why This Role Matters:
The artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector in Tanzania is an important industry that supports the livelihoods of many, yet it often comes with risks, including child labor and unsafe working conditions. As Project Director, you will be at the forefront of efforts to transform this sector, helping to protect vulnerable children and workers while improving their quality of life.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Master’s degree with 11+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 13+ years of experience. At least 6 years should involve management, project supervision, and direct project implementation.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead complex, multi-partner projects, particularly those addressing issues of child labor, forced labor, or workplace exploitation. Experience in the mining sector is preferred.
Stakeholder Relations: Strong track record in establishing and maintaining relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including government bodies, private sector partners, and civil society organizations.
