The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a National Professional Officer for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) to join its team in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, under a Special Services Agreement (SSA) for a six-month contract. This is an excellent chance to work in public health and contribute to the implementation of the PEN-Plus strategy, a critical initiative to address severe and chronic NCDs in Tanzania.
Role Overview:
The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting Tanzania’s Ministry of Health in coordinating the PEN-Plus strategy, which focuses on strengthening the capacity of health systems to manage severe NCDs. This role includes:
- Coordination with national stakeholders, including health ministries and local governments.
- Technical support in developing a national PEN-Plus implementation plan and a sustainable funding model.
- Monitoring and evaluation of NCD initiatives.
- Training and capacity building to ensure the scale-up of PEN-Plus services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mapping stakeholders and facilitating coordination across government and health bodies.
- Supporting the creation of a national PEN-Plus implementation plan and budget.
- Providing technical assistance for monitoring and evaluation of NCD control efforts.
- Assisting in developing training programs and patient navigation tools.
- Organizing national discussions with potential funders and drafting funding proposals.
Essential Requirements:
- A degree in Medicine, Public Health, or related fields with a focus on NCD control.
- At least five years of experience in health-related work, with knowledge of WHO’s NCD strategies.
- Fluency in English and Swahili; knowledge of other UN languages is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong teamwork and communication skills in multicultural settings.
- Proficiency in data analysis and strategic planning for health programs.
- Ability to work effectively in dynamic environments and adapt to changing contexts.
