This full-time position is critical for ensuring that Dangote Cement (DC) Tanzania remains compliant with legal and regulatory standards, while managing legal risks associated with the business. Key Responsibilities:

As the Senior Legal Officer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Legal Case Management: Review cases against the company, assess their merits, and select suitable law firms for defense, including negotiating terms of engagement and securing approvals.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure timely filing of statutory reports, renew licenses, and maintain permits by working with relevant departments.

  • Contract Drafting: Review and draft contracts, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and provide legal advisory services as needed.

  • Governance: Identify and address any outstanding governance issues, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.

  • Intellectual Property: Register and monitor trademarks and other intellectual properties, protecting the company's assets from infringement.

  • External Counsel Liaison: Act as the primary contact for external counsel, manage relationships, and oversee litigation cases.

  • Litigation Monitoring: Maintain a database of all litigation cases and related documents, manage legal exposure, and ensure proper representation in disputes.

  • Additional Duties: Support the Head of Department with other legal responsibilities as required.

Requirements:

To qualify for this role, you must have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) with a Call to the Tanzanian Bar and membership of the Tanganyika Law Society.

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 10 years of post-call work experience, preferably in the cement manufacturing or mining industry.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Tanzania’s legal compliance regime, corporate governance laws, and industry-specific regulations and challenges.

  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills, alongside excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
