Job Purpose
The Underwriting Assistant will be responsible for reviewing proposal forms, verifying client data, assessing risks, and ensuring policies adhere to set standards. You will work closely with the Underwriting Manager to ensure smooth operations and excellent service delivery to clients, brokers, and other insurance stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment: Review proposal forms and assess the proposed risks within established underwriting standards.
- Policy Management: Issue and release policy documents, endorsements, and valuation reports to clients.
- Customer Service: Maintain high standards of service by responding to client inquiries (via phone, email, or brokers) and providing renewal terms to customers.
- Broker Liaison: Work closely with brokers on policy issues and ensure timely distribution of debit/credit notes.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, and follow credit control policies.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of policies underwritten and decisions made.
- Renewals: Generate and manage renewal notices for all business.
- Team Collaboration: Work with various departments to achieve organizational goals and deliver exceptional performance.
- Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Key Performance Indicators
- Renewal Retention Ratio: Ensuring a high level of customer renewal rates.
- Claims Ratio: Helping maintain a healthy balance between claims and underwriting profitability.
- Customer Turnaround Time: Ensuring quick and efficient service delivery.
- Debtors Ratio: Managing outstanding payments in line with set goals.
- Compliance: Ensuring adherence to the underwriting standards set by Britam.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree: Preferably in insurance or a related field.
- At least one year of experience in the insurance industry, with a focus on underwriting.
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, regulatory requirements, and the market landscape.
- Customer and Market Understanding: A good grasp of customer needs, market trends, and competitor activities.
