About Jhpiego and the RISE Project

Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, has a strong reputation for transforming healthcare systems around the globe. In Tanzania, they are implementing the RISE Project, funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and USAID, to support Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) services. The project, running from October 2024 to September 2025, focuses on HIV prevention in regions such as Singida, Iringa, Morogoro, Njombe, and Tabora.

Working closely with Ministry of Health officials, the Regional Health Management Teams (RHMTs), and Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs), Jhpiego's goal is to achieve national VMMC targets, improve data management, and enhance healthcare services for Tanzanians.

Position Overview: Assistant M&E

As the Assistant M&E, you will play a critical role in supporting data literacy, management, analysis, and utilization at the regional and council levels. You'll collaborate closely with health management teams and ensure accurate data reporting and analysis. Your work will directly contribute to tracking the progress of VMMC services, identifying trends, and helping the project achieve its objectives.

Key Responsibilities

As an M&E Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Data Reporting & Management: Ensuring timely data entry into the District Health Information System (DHIS2), coordinating with data personnel to resolve discrepancies, and supporting real-time performance tracking.
  • Data Quality Assessments: Implementing routine assessments and ensuring the safety and integrity of the data collected, helping to drive evidence-based decision-making.
  • Data Visualization & Analysis: Conducting regular data analysis, creating engaging reports and dashboards using Power BI to share performance insights with project teams, councils, and facilities.
  • Capacity Building & Collaboration: Facilitating training sessions, supporting healthcare providers in using M&E tools, and working with stakeholders like the Ministry of Health and USAID.
  • Strategic Insights & Adaptation: Using data to inform project strategy, troubleshoot issues, and advocate for best practices at the regional and council levels.

What You’ll Bring

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in data science, M&E, health informatics, or related fields.
  • 2+ years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, research, and data analysis, preferably in HIV prevention.
  • Hands-on experience using DHIS2, DATIM, and other digital platforms like CommCare or ODK.
  • Strong skills in data visualization and experience using tools like Power BI to communicate results effectively.
  • A proactive, field-oriented approach, with the ability to motivate and work with diverse teams, including R/CHMTs and healthcare providers.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and English, with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
