Position Overview: Project Driver

The Project Driver will support research projects by providing transportation to field staff, maintaining vehicles, and assisting with various field-related tasks. This is a full-time, nationally recruited position based in Arusha, Tanzania. You will be part of a collaborative team of scientists, technicians, and logistics staff, contributing directly to projects that have a positive impact on food security and agricultural development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport staff, visitors, and materials to various research sites across Tanzania.
  • Ensure the upkeep of vehicles by conducting routine checks and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle logs, fuel usage, and maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with field activities as needed, including operating tractors and handling agricultural equipment.
  • Follow all traffic rules and organizational policies to ensure the safety of staff and assets.
  • Deliver parcels and correspondence to relevant offices and institutions.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly vehicle movement reports and adhere to service schedules.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum O-Level secondary education or equivalent.
  • At least three years of experience as a driver, ideally in an international organization with regional exposure.
  • Valid Class C driving license with a clean driving record and a certificate of good conduct.
  • Basic knowledge of automobile mechanics, including minor repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Familiarity with basic computer applications for reporting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Terms of Employment

The initial contract is for one year, with a probationary period of three months. The position is graded at BG 02 level, with a competitive base salary of 574,277.00 TZS and a range of benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, staff training, and flexible working arrangements. The contract is renewable based on performance and resource availability.
