Overall Purpose of the Role:
The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Advocacy Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the GBV Team Leader, and with guidance from the Protection Coordinator. The position is based in Kasulu/Kibondo and will involve supporting the GBV Prevention and Advocacy Officer in conducting field visits to host villages near Nyarugusu and Nduta refugee camps. The position will work with diverse groups including women, men, boys, and girls from the camps and nearby communities to implement GBV prevention and risk reduction activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Reduction: Participate in identifying risks faced by community members through GBV safety audits and consultations. Report findings and recommend risk reduction activities.
- Community Mobilization: Support the GBV Prevention and Advocacy Officer in mobilizing the community and conducting outreach activities.
- Training and Awareness: Assist in organizing training on GBV prevention for various groups, including refugee community leaders, NGO workers, and implementing partners.
- Campaign Support: Assist with the organization of key events such as the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV and International Women’s Day.
- Referral Services: Promote GBV services and ensure community members can access them.
- Advocacy: Participate in advocacy meetings for gender inclusion and risk factor consideration.
- Reporting and Monitoring: Prepare work plans and reports, conduct data collection, and collaborate on risk monitoring with other team members.
Experience and Technical Competencies:
- Experience: 1-2 years in GBV prevention, protection, and humanitarian responses, preferably in a refugee setting.
- Technical Skills: Experience with GBV case management, referral activities, and awareness programs. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential.
- Personal Skills: Strong initiative, problem-solving abilities, and cultural sensitivity. Field experience in emergency contexts is an advantage.
Education and Language Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies or a relevant field.
- Languages: Proficiency in written and spoken English and Swahili. Knowledge of Kirundi is an added advantage.
