About the Programme
UNOPS is excited to offer an immersive STEM Trainees Programme, designed to equip participants with hands-on, practical experience in clean energy initiatives. Through this program, trainees will support various project activities while building skills in energy, sustainability, and community engagement. This opportunity is perfect for individuals passionate about leveraging STEM to drive environmental and social impact.


Key Responsibilities

Engage in Energy Audits, Site Visits & Needs Assessments

  • Participate in energy audits, needs assessments, and site visits.
  • Assist in engaging schools and communities on the benefits of clean cooking.
  • Collaborate on campaigns to raise awareness of clean energy solutions.

Support Cookstove Provision and Training

  • Aid in the installation and distribution of electric cookstoves (eCookstoves) to schools.
  • Assist with training events and capacity-building workshops for project partners.
  • Organize community demonstrations and advocacy events.
  • Troubleshoot and support maintenance of eCooking solutions in schools.

Assist with Monitoring Activities

  • Participate in data collection and analysis with project partners.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monitoring reports.

Engage in Clean Cooking, Carbon Finance, and Advocacy

  • Support initiatives promoting clean cooking for environmental sustainability.
  • Gain insights into carbon finance mechanisms and their application in sustainable energy projects.
  • Advocate for policies supporting clean cooking practices through targeted campaigns.

Communications & Social Media Engagement

  • Leverage personal social media channels to promote clean cooking initiatives and sustainability practices.
  • Create engaging content, including posts, videos, and graphics, for platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Training Components and Learning Opportunities

As part of the programme, STEM Trainees will participate in virtual and hands-on training sessions focusing on technical and professional development, including:

Technical Training

  • Understanding energy sector challenges with a focus on clean cooking solutions.
  • Technical knowledge on eCooking appliances and their care.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools, frameworks, and data analysis.
  • Introduction to carbon offset mechanisms and markets in clean cooking activities.

Professional Development Training

  • Soft skills training covering career development topics like resume writing, interviewing, networking, and mentorship.
  • Communication and social media strategy workshops to amplify advocacy efforts.

Eligibility Criteria

Education

  • Applicants must be enrolled in or have graduated within the past three years from a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. programme in a STEM-related field (e.g., sciences, renewable energy, engineering).

Experience

  • While prior work experience is not required, any experience in energy, engineering, finance, communications, or related fields is considered an advantage.

Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in both English and Swahili is mandatory.
