Position Overview

DIGNITY Kwanza seeks a proactive and detail-oriented Finance and Operations Officer (FAO) to oversee its financial and operational functions. The FAO will play a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance, efficient use of resources, and financial sustainability. This position requires extensive experience in nonprofit financial management, operations coordination, and strategic guidance to help the organization achieve its goals.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Management Team, providing support in budget preparation, financial analysis, grant management, and operational strategy. This position demands a high level of integrity, analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information to a diverse audience.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Develop, monitor, and manage organizational budgets and financial plans in collaboration with the management team.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, regulations, and donor requirements.
  • Manage donor funds, oversee grant reporting, and ensure timely submissions.
  • Prepare and present financial statements and reports to stakeholders.
  • Conduct financial analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Manage payroll, accounts payable, and receivable processes.
  • Supervise and support finance and administration staff, providing mentorship and training.
  • Oversee audits and maintain relationships with external auditors.
  • Reconcile bank statements, monitor cash flow, and implement risk management practices.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper general ledger maintenance.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts by providing relevant financial data and analysis.

Operational Management:

  • Develop and refine operational policies and procedures to align with organizational goals.
  • Manage the allocation and maintenance of resources, including equipment, facilities, and technology.
  • Support program teams in planning and executing projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Collaborate with HR to address staffing needs, training, and personnel management.
  • Oversee compliance with laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Coordinate logistics and resources for program activities and events.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate operational risks.
  • Manage contracts, insurance, and vendor relationships.
  • Prepare materials for board meetings and maintain organized records of financial and operational documents.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA certification is a strong advantage.
  • 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in finance, accounting, or operations, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office (particularly Excel).
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, including grant compliance and donor reporting.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial risk management.
  • Familiarity with audit processes and external auditor coordination.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask under pressure.
