Role Overview

The Cook will be tasked with preparing, cooking, and serving a variety of meals for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to dietary requirements and established recipes. Maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and hygiene is a fundamental aspect of this role. The ideal candidate must be adaptable, compassionate, and willing to work in shifts to meet the needs of our patients and team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare nutritious meals based on planned menus, recipes, and dietary restrictions, including diabetic, low-sodium, and soft foods.
  • Ensure meals are cooked to the correct temperature and served within designated times.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, adhering to strict hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Follow proper food handling and storage protocols, including labeling and inventory management.
  • Assist with preparing meals for patients with special dietary needs, such as allergies or food intolerances.
  • Uphold workplace safety measures to ensure a hazard-free environment.
  • Provide catering support during hospital events as needed.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Education:

    • Secondary School Certificate.
    • Certification in food preparation and handling or relevant culinary training.
  • Experience:

    • At least three years of experience in professional cooking, ideally in schools, hospitals, or large-scale kitchens catering for over 100 people.
  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in preparing Tanzanian and African cuisine.
    • Solid understanding of culinary techniques and food preparation.
    • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
    • Physical stamina to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
