About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned researcher to join our team as a Principal Investigator (Public Health). This role involves technical leadership, mentorship of junior researchers, and business development, contributing to our growing portfolio of public health research across Africa and Latin America.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public health research, expertise in quantitative methods, and a passion for improving health systems, epidemiology, and policy research in the countries we serve.


Key Responsibilities

🔹 Technical Leadership

✔ Lead high-impact public health research projects, including studies on health systems, disease control, epidemiology, and health policy.
✔ Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for research projects, ensuring methodological rigor and accuracy.
✔ Contribute to the design, pre-analysis, execution, and interpretation of quantitative research.
✔ Develop training sessions and policies to enhance research quality and improve efficiency.

🔹 Mentorship & Team Development

✔ Guide and mentor junior researchers, fostering career development and technical excellence.
✔ Work closely with senior management to establish growth plans for emerging research leaders.

🔹 Business Development & Research Expansion

✔ Identify new research opportunities and lead the technical components of funding proposals.
✔ Expand Laterite’s research portfolio, build academic and institutional partnerships, and represent Laterite in research and policy events.
✔ Convert internal research ideas into externally funded projects.


Skills & Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Economics, Global Health, or a related field (PhD preferred, ABD candidates considered).

Technical Expertise & Experience:

  • Extensive experience in at least one of the following areas:
    🔹 Impact evaluations
    🔹 Large-scale survey-based data collection
    🔹 Implementation science research
    🔹 Advanced statistical analysis using quantitative methods
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals or gray literature.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure competitive research funding.
  • Experience conducting in-country research, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa or Latin America.
  • Proficiency in Stata, R, or Python for data analysis.
