About the Role

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a National Project Coordinator (NPC). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable development, employment creation, and economic empowerment in Zanzibar through innovative solutions and transformative projects.

The Integrated Innovations for Sustainable Development Programme, part of the Zanzibar Joint Programme (ZJP), focuses on enhancing household income, reducing inequalities, and promoting decent work in Kaskazini Pemba and Kaskazini Unguja. The project is supported by the Government of Norway and implemented collaboratively with ILO’s Enterprises and Skills Departments.


Key Responsibilities

As the NPC, you will:

  • Lead and oversee the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the project in line with ILO standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical and administrative supervision to the project team, ensuring the timely achievement of targets.
  • Develop project proposals and contribute to national strategies, reports, and reviews, integrating ILO’s core principles.
  • Offer technical guidance on enterprise and skills development to project partners, government agencies, and social partners.
  • Organize training sessions and awareness campaigns to advance knowledge on fundamental labour principles.
  • Facilitate the inclusion of gender equality and non-discrimination throughout project activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including government, employers, workers’ organizations, and the UN country team.
  • Represent the ILO in various forums, ensuring visibility for the project at national and international levels.
  • Ensure administrative efficiency and supervise project personnel effectively.

Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • A first-level university degree in economics, law, social sciences, or a related field.
  • An advanced degree in labour economics or a related field is a strong advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in project management, implementation, and administration.
  • Expertise in value chain development, skills enhancement, poverty reduction, and green job initiatives.

Languages:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.

Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using analytical tools and basic computer software (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment with a focus on gender sensitivity and inclusivity.

Employment Conditions

  • Salary: Entry-level salary of 123,698,000 TZS annually.
  • Appointment is on a fixed-term basis, with renewals subject to performance, funding availability, and ongoing project needs.
