The Eastern Africa Area (EAA) Procurement Team is on the lookout for a proactive and resourceful procurement professional to join their Nairobi-based team. This position will focus on executing sourcing activities related to key products, including Warehousing, Distribution, Cold Storage, Container Depots, Landside Transport, and Customs House Brokerage.
This role is integral to driving procurement excellence and ensuring alignment with the Fulfilled by Maersk Procurement Category Strategy, supporting cross-functional collaboration to achieve organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Procurement Activities
- Market Engagement: Lead procurement efforts, identifying cost-effective, compliant, and high-quality solutions through market research and vendor engagement.
- Go-to-Market Execution: Develop and execute RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs, analyzing and evaluating competitive market tests.
- Negotiations: Engage in strategic contract and pricing negotiations post-market testing and during annual reviews.
- Vendor Management: Resolve grievances and claims to ensure smooth supplier relationships.
- Categories Covered:
- Third-party warehousing & cold storage
- Industrial real estate for self-managed sites
- OPEX & CAPEX items for operationalizing self-managed sites
- Middle and final mile distribution services
- Container depots & related services
- First-mile land-side transport (road, rail, barge)
- Depot & facilities management
- Customs house brokerage
Strategic Procurement Responsibilities
- Procurement Category Strategy: Execute sourcing strategies aligned with product strategies, informed by market insights, spend analysis, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Sourcing Strategy: Develop and implement procurement strategies based on supply chain principles and organizational objectives.
- Customer Tenders: Collaborate with Product and Sales teams to provide timely input for customer tenders.
- Global Processes: Utilize Maersk’s global procurement tools, processes, and frameworks to ensure compliance and supplier performance excellence.
- Continuous Improvement: Support leadership in driving improvement initiatives and best practices through change management processes.
Travel Requirements
- Travel across Eastern Africa Area self-managed sites and supplier locations, as required.
Who We Are Looking For
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of procurement experience (Logistics sector experience preferred).
- Familiarity with procurement best practices in logistics and end-to-end sourcing projects.
- Strong financial and analytical skills to interpret data for decision-making.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities in fast-paced environments.
Interpersonal Skills
- Assertive communication style with excellent stakeholder management skills for navigating local, regional, and global networks.
- Ability to meet ambitious goals within tight deadlines while maintaining high performance standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a structured and analytical approach.
