About NIMR:
The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) is a government-established parastatal organization operating under Act No. 23 of 1979 (CAP.59, R.E.2002). It has been operational since 1980 and is a leading institution in medical research. The NIMR Mwanza Research Centre, located in Mwanza, specializes in research on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and other critical public health issues.

NIMR invites qualified, motivated, and experienced individuals to apply for the following positions:


1. Project Coordinator – Parent App for Early Years (1 Position)

Collaborative Study Details:
This project, conducted with the University of Oxford (UK), the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa), and REPSSI, is a feasibility trial on delivering parenting programs through digital platforms to support vulnerable families. The study focuses on caregivers and their children in three age groups:

  • Third trimester of pregnancy to 9 months.
  • 10 months to 4 years and 11 months.
  • 5 years to 9 years.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and pilot data collection tools.
  • Train and mentor junior staff, including data collectors.
  • Supervise data collection in Dar es Salaam.
  • Conduct regular quality checks on data.
  • Collaborate with the principal investigator (PI) and the data team for data processing.
  • Monitor data for key patterns and insights.
  • Draft manuscripts for publication in academic journals.
  • Prepare progress and evaluation reports.
  • Ensure efficient use of project resources.
  • Oversee project workshops and activities.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or Early Childhood Development.
  • Proven experience in digital intervention research and child development.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili (written and spoken).
  • Strong managerial, organizational, and report-writing skills.
  • Track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals.

Contract Terms:

  • One-year contract, renewable based on performance.
  • Duty Station: NIMR Mwanza Centre, with travel to Dar es Salaam.
  • Compensation: Competitive and aligned with the project budget.

2. Clinical Officer – Bright-SAM Project (5 Positions)

Project Overview:
In collaboration with Rigshospitalet (Denmark), the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the University of Liverpool, NIMR is conducting a trial to evaluate new ready-to-use therapeutic foods (RUTF) and a psychosocial stimulation program for malnourished children in Mwanza.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct clinical examinations.
  • Collect clinical data using standardized tools.
  • Perform additional study tasks as directed.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Medicine from a recognized institution with a practicing license.
  • Minimum two years of clinical research experience.
  • Proficiency in Kiswahili and English (spoken and written).
  • Computer literacy and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.

3. Assistant Nursing Officer – Bright-SAM Project (6 Positions)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy and clinical assessments.
  • Collect anthropometric and blood pressure data.
  • Conduct nutritional screening for children.
  • Use electronic devices to administer data collection tools.
  • Undertake other assigned study tasks.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Nursing with a valid practicing license.
  • At least two years of experience in clinical or research settings.
  • Skilled in pediatric blood sampling and anthropometric assessments.
  • Proficiency in Kiswahili and English (spoken and written).
  • Computer literacy and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
