Key Responsibilities
As a Barrick Mechanic, your primary duties will include:
- Promoting and adhering to safe work practices, including attending mandatory safety courses, utilizing PPE, and ensuring compliance with Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
- Following maintenance procedures to complete mechanical tasks while preventing further damage to equipment or systems.
- Ensuring proper equipment isolation and compliance with working-at-heights and confined-space standards.
- Conducting mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance to achieve production and cost objectives.
- Performing pre-start checks and inspections to ensure equipment readiness and safety.
- Executing mobile and plant equipment upgrades or modifications as required.
- Collaborating with the Maintenance Supervisor to keep all stakeholders informed about equipment status.
- Identifying and inspecting mechanical tools and equipment for maintenance tasks.
- Actively participating in training programs to gain new skills and enhance technical expertise.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must have:
- A Mechanics Trade Certification, Full Technician Certificate, or VETA Grade One certification.
- Strong knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practices.
- Awareness of the Mines Health & Safety Act.
Experience and Competencies
- A minimum of 5 years of post-apprenticeship experience in Mechanical Operations.
- Proven experience working on Sandvik and Caterpillar machinery is highly advantageous.
- Expertise in rebuilding and servicing mining mobile equipment.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
- Essential experience in both open-cast and underground mining operations.
