Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to Barrick’s health, safety, and environmental standards and report any HSE issues promptly.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of fixed plant equipment.
- Ensure proper use, storage, and maintenance of mechanical tools in line with OEM safety standards.
- Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA) and comply with lockout/tagout procedures.
- Carry out high-quality repairs and maintenance of equipment, adhering to safety codes and regulations.
- Fabricate, weld, and install structural components such as chutes, pipes, and tanks using advanced techniques.
- Examine pressure vessels and steel structures for defects and perform necessary repairs.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams to execute projects efficiently.
- Support rigging, scaffolding, and rubber lining tasks as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the workplace, applying the 5S principle.
- Complete preventive and corrective maintenance work orders promptly.
- Document and communicate work progress and issues during shift handovers.
Qualifications
- Completion of Technical/Vocational School, Apprenticeship, or equivalent training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test).
- In-depth knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practices.
- Valid Tanzanian driver’s license (Class B, C, D, E) and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
Experience and Skills Required
- A minimum of 3 years post-apprenticeship experience with heavy mobile equipment in surface operations.
- Proficiency in multiple welding methods, including TIG, MIG, and arc welding.
- Experience with fixed plant and underground mining operations.
- Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).
- Competency in interpreting technical drawings and manuals.
- Proven ability to identify hazards and conduct risk assessments.
- Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and strategic planning skills.
