Position: Dry Side Operator-1

Role Overview

As a Dry Side Operator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of equipment used in grain handling, storage, and preparation at our malting facility. Your focus will be on the "dry side" processes, including receiving, cleaning, and storing grains, all while upholding the highest quality standards. Collaborating closely with the operations team, you’ll ensure a smooth transition of grains into the malting process.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Grain Receiving & Storage

  • Monitor and manage equipment for grain deliveries, including truck unloading and conveyor systems.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and ensure proper grain storage.
  • Identify and escalate issues related to grain quality or delivery discrepancies.

2. Grain Cleaning & Inspection

  • Operate grain cleaning systems to remove impurities.
  • Conduct inspections for moisture, foreign materials, and overall grain quality.
  • Record and monitor grain conditions, ensuring no contamination.

3. Handling & Conveying

  • Operate and oversee grain handling systems such as augers, conveyors, and elevators.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Ensure accurate flow and allocation of grain within the facility.

4. Equipment Maintenance & Safety

  • Conduct routine maintenance checks on grain-handling machinery.
  • Report mechanical issues promptly to the maintenance team.
  • Adhere to safety standards and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

5. Quality Control & Compliance

  • Uphold strict quality standards, ensuring compliance with facility protocols.
  • Accurately document grain shipments, inventory, and quality checks.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements, including HACCP and food safety protocols.

6. Communication & Coordination

  • Collaborate effectively with operators, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Provide detailed reports during shift changes and regular intervals.
  • Contribute ideas to enhance efficiency and process improvements.

What You Bring

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Familiarity with grain quality standards and handling procedures.
  • Attention to detail and excellent record-keeping abilities.
  • Teamwork and effective communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with computer systems for tracking and reporting.
  • Adaptability to work in challenging environments (e.g., dusty, noisy conditions).
  • Flexibility for shift-based work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • National Diploma in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • N6 in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Additional certifications in agriculture, milling, or food processing are advantageous.
  • Prior experience in grain handling, milling, or malting operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of automated grain processing equipment is a bonus.
