About the Role
We are seeking a Construction Advisor with expertise in engineering, construction, or architecture to support our transformative “A Good Start” project in Morogoro, Tanzania. This role will involve overseeing the construction of a Neonatal Care Unit and other rehabilitation works to advance neonatal healthcare services in the region.
Project Overview: “A Good Start”
The second phase of the “A Good Start” project (2025–2027) aims to significantly reduce perinatal and neonatal mortality rates and enhance the quality of neonatal care in Morogoro. Working in collaboration with local health authorities, the project focuses on strengthening neonatal services across eight health facilities in the region. Implementation research will form a critical component, providing evidence to guide future policy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
As the Construction Advisor, your duties will include:
- Actively participating in construction project meetings alongside government authorities and the SolidarMed team.
- Ensuring adherence to Tanzanian regulations and SolidarMed’s Greener Healthcare policy during construction activities.
- Providing technical guidance during the tender process, contractor selection, and execution of construction works.
- Collaborating with government engineers to monitor material quality and construction standards.
- Tracking construction progress and submitting comprehensive monthly reports to the Project Manager.
- Offering technical assistance to contractors in coordination with government engineers.
Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for a dedicated professional with:
- A university degree in engineering, construction, or architecture.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in construction.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with partner organizations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of environmentally sustainable construction practices.
- Experience in constructing healthcare facilities (preferred).
- Prior experience with international non-governmental organizations (an advantage).
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
