About the Opportunity:

The University of California San Francisco (UCSF), in partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-Tanzania (CDC-Tanzania) and funded under the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), is seeking qualified individuals to fill 26 Data Collector positions. UCSF provides technical assistance in strategic information, data quality enhancement, and health information systems (HIS) to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and PEPFAR implementing partners (IPs).

To support the following two assessments, UCSF is hiring skilled qualitative and quantitative data collectors:

  1. Assessment of Enhanced Adherence Counseling (EAC) Services and Utility of Urine Tenofovir Test for Monitoring Antiretroviral Adherence in People Living with HIV in Tanzania

    • Objective: To identify challenges in the EAC cascade and opportunities for data-driven improvements in EAC implementation.
    • Regions: Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, and Morogoro
  2. ACCESS: Assessing Community-Centered Strategies for Effective HIV Service Solutions for Mobile Populations in Tanzania’s Lake Zone (2025)

    • Objective: To evaluate the availability, utilization, and barriers to accessing HIV services for fishing and mining communities.
    • Regions: Kagera and Geita

Key Responsibilities:

As a Data Collector, you will work under the supervision of Regional Assessment Coordinators and contribute to the successful implementation of the assessments by:

  • Attending mandatory training sessions to understand the assessment protocols and operations manual.
  • Engaging with potential participants and obtaining informed consent in line with ethical procedures.
  • Conducting interviews using qualitative and quantitative methods while ensuring accuracy and professionalism.
  • Abstracting data from paper and electronic records at selected facilities.
  • Accurately documenting activities, challenges, and observations, and reporting issues to the Assessment Coordinator.
  • Managing and safeguarding assessment data, including proper storage, privacy, and upload processes.
  • Collecting participant feedback, as required, to enhance assessment processes.
  • Adhering to strict confidentiality protocols regarding all assessment-related information.
  • Assisting with additional tasks as assigned by the Assessment Coordinator.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum age: 25 years
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, health-related disciplines, or equivalent field
  • At least 2 years of experience in data collection, including both qualitative and quantitative interviewing
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience engaging with marginalized populations and addressing sensitive topics, such as HIV/AIDS, is a plus
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili
  • Willingness to work in the designated regions (Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Morogoro, Kagera, and/or Geita) during the assessment period (March–May 2025)

  • Flexibility to travel domestically to support project needs
