Position: Finance Officer
📍 Location: Mbeya, Tanzania
📑 Project: Five-year USDA Poultry Value Chain Development Project
📊 Reporting to: Finance & Administration Director
The Finance Officer (FO) will play a critical role in ensuring effective financial management, budgeting, and reporting in compliance with organizational policies and international accounting standards. This USDA-funded project aims to transform small and medium enterprise (SME) poultry businesses into sustainable commercial ventures, enhancing the feed sector, incorporating climate-smart technologies, improving animal health practices, strengthening agricultural finance services, and supporting extension service providers in Mbeya, Iringa, Songwe, and Rukwa.
Key Responsibilities
✔️ Financial Management & Transactions
Process financial transactions, including payment requests, and enter data into accounting software.
Prepare monthly cash advance requests for office operations with input from country managers.
Extract and consolidate financial reports for country managers to facilitate reporting to headquarters.
Manage payroll processing and ensure timely tax payments, including withholding tax and other statutory returns.
Review advance requests and reconciliations to maintain compliance with financial policies.
Manage petty cash funds efficiently and ensure accurate documentation.
✔️ Records & Compliance
Maintain a well-organized filing system (both hard copy and electronic) for financial documentation.
Ensure timely bank reconciliations, tracking of advances, and enforcement of financial policies.
✔️ Procurement & Administration
Oversee administrative procurement processes, including vendor vetting, purchase order management, and payment processing.
Ensure compliance with contractual agreements for goods and services.
Support logistical arrangements for staff travel, events, and workshops.
Handle general office administration tasks to ensure a smooth workflow.
Assist in audit preparations by consolidating required financial documents.
Required Qualifications & Experience
🎓 Education & Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is an added advantage.
📌 Experience & Skills:
Minimum 3 years of experience in financial management.
Proficiency in financial software including QuickBooks or MIP, and strong command of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint.
Strong communication skills in English and Swahili (both written and spoken).
High attention to detail in project accounting, financial tracking, and reporting.
Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, multicultural team.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Experience in office administration and working with international NGOs is a plus.
