Mott MacDonald, through Cambridge Education Tanzania Limited (CETL), is offering an exciting internship opportunity as part of its Shule Bora project. This six-month internship (extendable for an additional six months by mutual agreement) is designed to provide recent graduates with valuable hands-on experience in financial management within a large-scale, government-led education programme.

Position: Assistant Finance Officer (Internship)

📍 Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
📄 Contract Type: Fixed-Term Internship (6 months, with possible extension)
Work Pattern: Full-Time

Role Overview:

As an Assistant Finance Officer, you will gain first-hand exposure to financial operations within an international development programme. You will support key financial processes, ensuring smooth financial transactions and compliance with policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

✔ Assist in preparing bank reconciliation statements and ensure timely approval and submission.
✔ Manage petty cash and perform regular reconciliations to maintain accurate cash balances.
✔ Record financial transactions in the applicable cash or bank books.
✔ Maintain up-to-date financial records for review and submission to the UK head office.
✔ Support cash payments and disbursement processes, including per diems, and ensure proper documentation and reconciliation.
✔ Assist in compiling vendor lists and preparing vouchers for batch processing.
✔ Prepare payment vouchers and cheques to ensure prompt settlement of invoices.
✔ Ensure all financial transactions comply with audit requirements, including necessary approvals and documentation.
✔ Assist in tax compliance, particularly with withholding tax regulations.
✔ Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Candidate Profile:

📌 Nationality: Must be a Tanzanian citizen.
📌 Education: A minimum of an Upper-Second Class degree (or equivalent) in Finance or Accounting.
📌 Experience: Fresh graduate or up to two years of experience in finance or accounting.
📌 Skills: Proactive problem-solving, strong time management, and excellent communication skills.
📌 Passion: A demonstrated interest in improving education and contributing to national development.
📌 Language: Fluent in spoken and written English.

Shule Bora is a UK Aid-funded, government-led education support programme that enhances education quality in Tanzania. The project focuses on:

✅ Supporting girls’ transition to secondary school.
✅ Ensuring children’s safety in and around schools.
✅ Enhancing access to quality education for children with disabilities.

The programme collaborates with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST) and President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) to implement scalable, inclusive, and sustainable education solutions in nine regions.
