ABOUT HAKIRASILIMALI
HakiRasilimali (HR) is a coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) in Tanzania dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and equitable resource governance within the extractive sector, encompassing mining, oil, and natural gas. As the Tanzanian chapter of Publish What You Pay (PWYP), a global movement advocating for open and accountable extractive industries, HR strives to ensure that natural resources benefit all citizens.
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
HakiRasilimali is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Research and Policy Analysis Intern to join our team. The successful candidate will support research initiatives, policy analysis, and advocacy efforts, contributing to meaningful change in the governance of Tanzania’s extractive sector.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about extractive industry governance, natural resource management, policy research, and social justice, with strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Research and Policy Officer, the intern will:
- Analyze and monitor trends, policies, and legislative developments in Tanzania’s extractive sector.
- Conduct research on emerging issues, identifying key areas for advocacy and policy recommendations.
- Assist in developing concept notes, research frameworks, and methodologies for various projects.
- Support data collection and analysis, contributing to policy papers, reports, and briefings.
- Draft summaries and briefs on critical extractive sector issues for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in organizing stakeholder engagements, advocacy workshops, and policy dialogues.
- Compile and synthesize research materials to inform policy discussions and strategic decision-making.
- Contribute to drafting policy papers, memos, and other knowledge products.
DESIRED COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Political Science, Law, Public Policy, International Relations, Sociology, or a related field.
- Prior experience in research, policy analysis, or advocacy (including academic research) is an added advantage.
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong research skills with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with research tools/databases.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and solution-driven mindset.
- Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks within deadlines.
