Project Overview – PlayMatters
PlayMatters is an innovative education initiative spanning Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda, designed to promote Learning through Play (LtP) for children aged 3 to 12 in refugee and host communities. Spearheaded by the IRC in collaboration with esteemed partners—including Plan International, War Child Holland, Innovations for Poverty Action, and the Behavioral Insights Team—the project is generously funded by the LEGO Foundation.
Role Overview
The IRC seeks a Content Review Specialist & Language Editor-Consultant to translate and proofread eight key educational guides from English to French. These materials, developed in partnership with the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) and ADEM, support Congolese and Burundian education programs in refugee camps. The consultant will refine the content for accuracy, coherence, and cultural relevance while ensuring high-quality linguistic and pedagogical standards.
This assignment is scheduled to run from February 20 to March 31, 2025, culminating in a final review meeting with TIE and MoEST to approve the materials for teacher training and classroom implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate, edit, and proofread seven key Learning through Play and School Leadership CPD guides into French
- Ensure linguistic precision, content clarity, and cultural adaptability
- Align the translated materials with educational frameworks and curriculum standards
- Prepare materials for final approval by TIE and MoEST
Deliverables – Educational Guides for Translation & Editing
1. Learning through Play Guides
- Facilitator’s Guide – Teaching and learning through play for pre- and primary schools in Tanzania
- Teacher’s Play Resource Book – Enhancing well-being and inclusivity through play-based education
- Teacher’s Module – Integrating play methodologies in teaching and learning
2. School Leadership & CPD Guides
- Facilitator’s Guide – Supporting continuous professional development (CPD) for teachers
- CPD Module – Strengthening play-based learning practices
- Facilitator’s Guide for PTA & School Committees – Supervising and enhancing play-based teaching
- Manual for PTA & School Committees – Governance and supervision in play-based education
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Linguistics (French) or Education with a specialization in French
- Proven expertise in translating and localizing educational content (portfolio required)
- Strong grasp of educational terminology, curriculum design, and teaching methodologies
- Experience adapting materials to French-speaking learning contexts
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in education, pedagogy, or active learning methodologies
- Familiarity with learning through play and inclusive teaching practices
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Experience working in Tanzania's education sector, particularly in humanitarian and development contexts, is an asset
