About the Role

Grant Thornton Tanzania is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal & Compliance Intern to join our team. This role is ideal for final-year law students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in corporate legal compliance and regulatory affairs.

As an intern, you will work closely with government authorities and internal teams to ensure the company’s compliance with Tanzanian laws, including the Companies Act, immigration regulations, and business licensing requirements. If you're passionate about legal research, compliance, and corporate governance, this opportunity is for you!


Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Government Liaison

  • Follow up on applications submitted to government bodies such as:
    🔹 Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA)
    🔹 Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA)
    🔹 Immigration Department
    🔹 Labor Office
  • Assist in obtaining work permits, residence permits, and business licenses.
  • Support compliance with the Companies Act and other corporate legal requirements.

Legal Documentation & Research

  • Conduct legal research on Tanzanian laws affecting company operations.
  • Draft, review, and organize legal documents, contracts, and agreements.
  • Prepare compliance reports and maintain legal records.

Monitoring & Compliance Advisory

  • Track regulatory updates and inform management of changes in laws and regulations.
  • Assist in compliance audits and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external legal advisors to ensure legal compliance.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Education & Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree (or final-year student) in Law, Business Law, or a related field.
  • Understanding of Tanzanian corporate laws, immigration policies, and compliance procedures.

Experience & Skills

  • Prior internship or work experience in a legal or government-related role is an added advantage.
  • Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively follow up with authorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
