📍 Location: Arusha, Tanzania
📅 Start Date: May/June 2025
📑 Contract Type: Full-time collaboration contract
💰 Salary Range: €3,400 – €3,800 (gross per month)
📆 Duration: 1-year contract (renewable)

🔹 Reports To: Tanzania Country Coordinator & Programme Manager
🔹 Collaboration With: WASH Programme Manager, Conservation Programme Manager, Administration & Communications Departments


About the Project: RESTORE

🌱 Project Title: Renewable Energies and Rangeland Restoration for Resilience in Rural Tanzania (RESTORE)
📌 Location: Longido District, Arusha Region (Ecological corridor between Amboseli & Natron ecosystems, bordering Kenya)

The RESTORE project aims to enhance the resilience of pastoral communities in Tanzania against climate change through awareness-building, capacity development, and sustainable land management. Our goal is to integrate adaptation and mitigation strategies in alignment with SDGs 7, 13, and 15.

Key Project Components:

Land Restoration & Female Empowerment – Engaging Maasai women and youth in invasive species removal and pasture restoration.
Climate Change Mitigation – Enhancing institutional capacities, improving water access through solar-powered systems, and promoting renewable energy solutions.
Digitalization & Innovation – Supporting national-level software upgrades for community-based water supply organizations (CBWSO).
Sustainable Energy Solutions – Installing 5 multi-functional photovoltaic systems and distributing 5,000 energy-efficient stoves to reduce deforestation & emissions.


Your Role as Project Manager

As a Project Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the RESTORE project, ensuring effective coordination, implementation, and impact measurement.

🔹 Key Responsibilities:

✅ Lead project planning, execution, and monitoring, ensuring compliance with Istituto Oikos & AICS procedures.
✅ Ensure efficient financial management by overseeing procurement, cash flow, and payment schedules.
✅ Build and maintain strong relationships with project partners, local authorities, and key stakeholders.
✅ Coordinate the construction of WASH infrastructures, implementation of trainings, and awareness campaigns.
✅ Lead monitoring & evaluation (M&E) activities, ensuring high-quality data collection and analysis.
✅ Represent Istituto Oikos in institutional meetings and support policy advocacy efforts.
✅ Supervise technical teams, contractors, and field personnel to ensure timely and effective delivery of project objectives.
✅ Ensure all project reports (quarterly, bi-annual, and annual) are prepared and submitted on time.


What We’re Looking For

🎓 Required Qualifications & Skills:
🔹 Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Natural Sciences, Biology, or a relevant field (or Bachelor’s + 2 years of additional relevant experience).
🔹 5+ years of experience managing international projects with a minimum budget of €1.5 million.
🔹 Proven expertise in WASH projects and sustainable resource management.
🔹 Familiarity with AICS, EuropeAid, or UN procurement & contract policies.
🔹 Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
🔹 Exceptional written & verbal communication skills in English and Italian.
🔹 Ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams in cross-cultural settings.

🌍 Additional Assets (Preferred but Not Mandatory):
✅ Technical expertise in environmental conservation.
✅ Previous work experience in East Africa.
Fluency in Kiswahili is an added advantage.
