About HerStart: Innovate the Future
HerStart is an initiative by YCI, designed to foster an equitable and prosperous economy across Ghana, Tanzania, and Uganda. The program provides aspiring entrepreneurs with training, support, and mentorship in social enterprise development, gender-responsive business planning, impact measurement, and access to finance. Canadian volunteers contribute to the program by engaging in capacity-building initiatives with local partners.
About the Role
We are looking for a dynamic, detail-oriented, and strategic Operations and Finance Manager to join our team in Zanzibar. Reporting to the Country Manager, you will play a pivotal role in financial management, operations, and human resources, ensuring the smooth and compliant execution of our programs.

Key Responsibilities
1. Operations & Administration Management
- Oversee and enhance organizational systems and processes for YCI Zanzibar, including procurement, policies, and procedures.
- Support the Country Manager in managing HR functions, including contracts, performance reviews, recruitment, and onboarding of local staff.
- Coordinate logistics for Canadian volunteers, including arrival planning, accommodations, orientation sessions, and work placements.
- Ensure compliance with NGO registration and legal requirements in Zanzibar.
- Manage office space, volunteer accommodations, and health/safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment.
2. Financial Management
- Ensure compliance with YCI Headquarters financial policies and donor regulations.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, financial planning, and reporting.
- Monitor cash flow, payroll, tax payments, and financial transactions to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with national regulations, audits, and tax filings.
3. Technical Support & Training
- Provide onboarding, training, and support to project staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders on financial, operational, and HR policies.
- Collaborate with the Country Manager to guide decision-making and ensure project success.
- Foster a culture of accountability and financial literacy through training and mentorship.
4. Volunteer Management
- Supervise international volunteers in delivering project goals.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to ensure their successful integration into the YCI team.
Skills & Qualifications
✔️ 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, operations, procurement, and/or human resources.
✔️ Strong understanding of financial processes, accounting principles, and compliance.
✔️ Experience working in NGOs, international development, or community programs.
✔️ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, with strong analytical skills.
✔️ Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).
✔️ Ability to mentor, train, and lead teams with an inclusive and adaptive approach.
✔️ Tanzanian citizen or permanent resident (preference for Zanzibar residents).
