Job Vacancy: Driver at CIAT/Bioversity International

Position Overview:
The Alliance Bioversity International and CIAT are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Driver to join their team. The Driver will play a key role in ensuring the smooth transportation and logistical coordination for staff, visitors, and materials related to the CIAT projects. This role involves traveling to various research sites in Tanzania and supporting field activities. The Driver will also provide technical services and maintenance to CIAT vehicles under the supervision of the Coordinator I.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Transport & Logistics Support

    • Provide safe, timely transportation for staff, visitors, and materials to project sites, meetings, and official destinations.
    • Ensure the delivery and collection of documents and essential materials, supporting the smooth operations of the field activities.
    • Assist in coordinating logistics for field visits, workshops, and research activities.
  2. Vehicle Maintenance & Compliance

    • Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance, including checks on fuel, oil, brakes, and tire pressure.
    • Maintain detailed vehicle logs including fuel usage, service schedules, and ensure the vehicle meets all regulatory requirements (insurance, licenses).
    • Ensure the vehicle is in good condition and clean.
  3. Safety & Security

    • Adhere to safety protocols, ensuring passengers use seat belts and that the vehicle is equipped with a First Aid Kit.
    • Park the vehicle in secure locations and promptly report any incidents or accidents.
  4. Administrative & Field Support

    • Coordinate trip schedules and logistics with the administrative team.
    • Provide transportation to official visitors and stakeholders, ensuring smooth engagement with the field participants.
    • Support field activities and assist with tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum O-Level secondary education or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of driving experience, preferably in an international organization with regional exposure.
  • Valid Class C Driving License and a certificate of Good Conduct.
  • Basic mechanical training or knowledge to carry out minor repairs and preventive vehicle maintenance.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and communication skills in English.

Technical Competencies:

  • Excellent driving skills and vehicle maintenance knowledge.
  • Strong navigation, route planning, and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations and ensure safety awareness.
  • High degree of professionalism and etiquette.

Benefits:

  • This role is based in Arusha, Tanzania, with a one-year contract subject to a three-month probation period and possible renewal based on performance.
  • Salary: Competitive, starting at 574,277 Tanzanian Shillings (BG02 level, according to Alliance’s job classification).
