In Tanzania, Mercy Corps has been active since 2011, fostering sustainable development and peacebuilding efforts. We are currently seeking Enumerators to support the Girls Improving Resilience through Livelihoods and Health (GIRL-H) Program in Kigoma and Tabora.


Position: Enumerator

📌 Reports To: Data Collection Supervisor

Role Overview

Enumerators play a critical role in data collection and field research to ensure the effectiveness of Mercy Corps’ initiatives. This role is ideal for individuals with a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and experience in research and data management.


Key Responsibilities

Data Collection & Research

  • Conduct household visits, community interviews, and focus group discussions.
  • Collect and input data using mobile-based applications (e.g., ODK, KOBO, ComCare).
  • Ensure that data collection methods align with Mercy Corps’ standards.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure data accuracy and reliability through proper documentation.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in handling data.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, safeguarding procedures, and ethical guidelines.

Community Engagement & Reporting

  • Engage community members, key informants, and local stakeholders to gather insights.
  • Summarize key findings from interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Provide timely reports on data collection progress.

Technical & Administrative Support

  • Participate in training sessions on data collection methodologies.
  • Assist with pre-testing tools to ensure efficiency in research execution.
  • Submit daily timesheets detailing work hours and tasks completed.

Qualifications & Experience

📌 Education & Skills:
Secondary School Certificate or Higher Diploma in Social Sciences, Statistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
✔ Experience using mobile data collection tools (ODK, KOBO, ComCare, etc.) is highly preferred.
✔ Strong command of Swahili and English (spoken and written).
✔ Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and other data management software.

📌 Professional Experience:
Prior experience in data collection, research, or fieldwork (especially in NGO or humanitarian settings) is an advantage.
✔ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
✔ Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse communities.
✔ Experience handling audio recorders and digital survey platforms is desirable.
