We are currently seeking a dedicated and hardworking TWG Assistant/Gardener to join our Technical Works Group (TWG) Team at the British High Commission in Dar es Salaam.


Position: TWG Assistant/Gardener S3

Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Department: Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (Operations and Corporate Services)
Type of Position: Permanent
Working Hours: 35.5 hours per week
Salary: TZS 618,947 per month

Start Date: 1 April 2025


Role Overview

The TWG Assistant/Gardener will be responsible for maintaining and managing a large garden within the British High Commission’s office and residential properties. This role requires someone with a strong work ethic, excellent teamwork skills, and the ability to follow and create schedules to ensure the garden remains in excellent condition.

The successful candidate should be physically fit, capable of manual labor, and experienced in handling gardening tools (training will be provided for electrical tools). They will also be expected to identify and report any risks or required maintenance work beyond their scope.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain the landscape, plants, and overall appearance of the garden.
  • Create and follow gardening schedules to ensure regular upkeep.
  • Utilize and maintain gardening tools and equipment safely (training provided for power tools).
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Technical Works Group (TWG) team.
  • Identify and report maintenance needs or potential risks to management.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols in all gardening activities.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience managing a large garden.
  • Knowledge of different plant species and their care requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience working with power tools.
  • Ability to develop and follow work schedules.
  • Familiarity with swimming pool upkeep (advantageous).
