We are currently hiring a Visits & Events Officer (Executive Officer - EO) to play a key role in ensuring the successful coordination of high-profile events and visits at the British High Commission in Dar es Salaam.
Position: Visits & Events Officer (EO)
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Department: Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (Residence and Support Staff)
Type of Position: Fixed-term, with the possibility of renewal
Working Hours: 35.5 hours per week
Salary: TZS 3,812,897 per month

Role Overview
The Visits & Events Officer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing high-profile events and visits while ensuring a seamless experience for guests and stakeholders. The role requires a proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable individual with strong organizational and leadership skills.
This is a multi-faceted position that involves managing logistics, financial compliance, and residence operations. The job holder will collaborate with multiple teams, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Event Management (40%)
- Lead event planning and execution for the British High Commission (BHC), ensuring professionalism and high standards.
- Oversee scheduling, logistics, and operational delivery of events in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.
- Coordinate closely with Estates, Communications, Residence, and Policy teams as well as external stakeholders.
- Manage event budgets and procurement, ensuring adherence to FCDO financial policies.
- Serve as Event Manager for large-scale events, such as the King’s Birthday Party, overseeing on-the-day execution and post-event evaluations.
Visit Coordination (20%)
- Serve as Visits Officer for high-profile official and Ministerial visits.
- Act as the central coordinator, managing scheduling, meetings, and overall logistics.
- Organize practical arrangements and collaborate closely with BHC teams and UK headquarters (HQ) representatives.
Residence Management (30%)
- Supervise and manage a team of four residence staff, ensuring smooth operations.
- Implement financial and operational controls, including budget oversight and stock management.
- Handle procurement and purchasing for daily residence activities.
- Oversee health and safety compliance in collaboration with the Health & Safety Coordinator.
Additional Cross-Cutting Support (10%)
- Assist with other operational duties as needed, including providing PA support to senior leadership.
- Adapt to evolving priorities, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in event management or the hospitality industry, including organizing medium to large-scale events.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Strong budget management experience, handling budgets over $20,000.
- Leadership experience, managing a team of at least two people.
- Fluency in English (both spoken and written).
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
- Prior experience coordinating high-profile visits (e.g., Ministers, senior officials, dignitaries).
- Knowledge of estates management.
- Previous work experience in an international organization.

Work Arrangements & Benefits
- The role requires physical presence at Umoja House (BHC offices) or the High Commissioner’s residence on most days.
- Evening and weekend work may be required for events or visits, with Time Off in Lieu (TOIL), Overtime, or Shift Disturbance Allowance (SDA) as compensation.

- The British High Commission does not request any fees or payments during the application process.
- Candidates must legally reside and work in Tanzania, with the appropriate visa/work permit.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for:
