Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Research Officer Intern to join our team in Ifakara. The selected candidate will play a key role in diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with HIV and/or TB at St. Francis Regional Referral Hospital (SFRRH). This position requires collaboration with hospital staff, government authorities, and health partners to enhance service delivery. Additionally, the intern will have opportunities to contribute to the Kilombero and Ulanga Antiretroviral Cohort (KIULARCO) research platform while also pursuing independent research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide treatment for PLHIV and TB patients in line with national guidelines and protocols.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical professionals on patient diagnosis and management.
- Diagnose and manage Opportunistic Infections (OIs), ensuring appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation, including case report forms (CRFs) and CTC records.
- Conduct consultations and ward rounds for PLHIV admitted to different hospital departments.
- Uphold job-related responsibilities in accordance with CDCI, hospital, and government (MOH) guidelines.
- Offer health education and adherence counseling to patients at the Chronic Diseases Clinic of Ifakara (CDCI).
- Participate in mandatory team meetings at CDCI and SFRRH as scheduled.
- Attend scientific meetings at IHI and contribute to ongoing research projects.
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of IHI research activities and studies.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by project leaders, the site director, or the director general of SFRRH.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine (MD).
- Completed internship and obtained a relevant certificate.
- Registration with the Medical Council of Tanganyika (or proof of application in progress).
- Prior experience in HIV/TB patient care or relevant certification is an added advantage.

- Proficiency in both Swahili and English.
- Strong interest in HIV/TB research and patient care.
