Project Overview

WWF Tanzania, in partnership with the African Development Bank, is seeking a qualified consultant(s) to conduct a study on the Adaptation Benefits Mechanism (ABM) methodology for Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR). This initiative aims to attract public and private sector financing to climate adaptation projects, enhancing the resilience of households, communities, economies, and ecosystems in Tanzania.

The study will focus on the application and piloting of the ABM methodology in a biodiversity and forest restoration project in Tanzania. The consultant will prepare an ABM Activity Description Document that highlights how biodiversity credits can generate economic and environmental benefits for local communities, particularly in Muheza District and the East Usambara Sub-landscape, while also positively impacting businesses in Tanga City.


Scope of Work

The selected consultant(s) will:

✅ Conduct a comprehensive study on the ABM methodology application for forest landscape restoration in Tanzania.
✅ Develop an ABM Activity Description Document that demonstrates how biodiversity financing through ABM FLR can benefit communities and local economies.
✅ Showcase how ABM methodologies can be leveraged to create biodiversity credits that support conservation and sustainable development.
✅ Provide technical expertise to align the project with global climate resilience and environmental financing standards.
✅ Ensure compliance with ABM Executive Committee guidelines, including social and environmental safeguards and grievance mechanisms.


Ideal Candidate Qualifications

📌 Expertise in Climate Resilience & Biodiversity Conservation

  • Strong background in forest landscape restoration (FLR), climate finance, biodiversity conservation, or environmental economics.

  • Experience working on climate adaptation financing mechanisms.

📌 Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Proven ability to conduct policy and technical studies in climate adaptation and biodiversity conservation.

  • Experience in preparing financial and technical documentation related to climate change adaptation and ecosystem restoration.

📌 Strong Stakeholder Engagement Abilities

  • Experience working with government institutions, NGOs, private sector investors, and local communities.

  • Ability to translate technical insights into practical, community-based benefits.

📌 Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Climate Finance, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience in relevant consultancy or project management roles.
