As part of our 2023 – 2027 Programme Strategy, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Senior Programme Officer, based in Zanzibar.

Role Overview
The Senior Programme Officer will be responsible for coordinating MCT’s programmes and administrative activities in Zanzibar, interpreting the Programme Strategy, and ensuring seamless implementation of Council activities. The position reports directly to the Institutional Sustainability Specialist (ISS).
Key Responsibilities
✅ Serve as the primary liaison between MCT and stakeholders in Zanzibar, offering advice on stakeholder relations, including government engagement.
✅ Ensure efficient management and utilization of office assets and resources.
✅ Identify challenges in programme implementation and propose solutions to the Institutional Sustainability Specialist (ISS).
✅ Oversee the coordination of MCT programmes and project activities in Zanzibar.
✅ Receive and process media-related complaints within Zanzibar.
✅ Strengthen Council membership in Zanzibar and follow up on membership fee payments.
✅ Maintain the Council’s reputation and promote positive engagement within Zanzibar.
✅ Ensure smooth communication between the head office and Zanzibar office.
✅ Prepare quarterly, semiannual, and annual reports on programme activities.
✅ Develop proposals for funding opportunities to support MCT operations in Zanzibar.
✅ Assist in budget preparation in collaboration with the Dar es Salaam office.
✅ Advocate for gender equality and awareness in media practices.
✅ Oversee administrative tasks, including office maintenance, utility bills, and petty cash management.
✅ Manage office files, documentation, and the Information Resource Center in Zanzibar.
✅ Monitor newspapers and electronic media to inform strategic planning.
✅ Generate regular content for the Council’s website and social media platforms.
✅ Carry out any additional duties as assigned by superiors.
Key Competencies & Skills
✔ Strong understanding of media self-regulation, press freedom, and freedom of expression issues.
✔ In-depth knowledge of Tanzania’s media landscape and industry dynamics.
✔ Proven expertise in advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
✔ Excellent administrative and analytical skills.
✔ Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
✔ Exceptional attention to detail and results-driven mindset.
✔ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Required Qualifications & Experience
🎓 Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Law, or relevant Social Sciences with at least 8 years of experience in the field.
🎓 A Master’s degree in a related discipline will be an added advantage.
