Jhpiego, a global health leader and affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is seeking a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Advisor to join their team in Tanzania. This is a full-time role that offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the quality of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) services, supported by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and USAID through the Reaching Impact, Saturation, and Epidemic Control (RISE) Project. This project runs from October 2024 to September 2025, with a focus on HIV prevention in Iringa, Morogoro, Njombe, Singida, and Tabora regions.
Position Summary: Advisor - Continuous Quality Improvement
As the CQI Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and leading the quality assurance and improvement activities of the project. Working closely with Quality Assurance (QA) Assistants and regional health teams, you will ensure adherence to national and international standards for VMMC service delivery. You will be responsible for setting CQI strategies, managing performance metrics, and providing mentorship to regional teams. This role also involves collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health (MOH), Regional Health Management Teams (RHMTs), and Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs) to strengthen the delivery of safe and sustainable VMMC services.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership in CQI: Manage and mentor QA Assistants, ensuring they effectively implement project CQI activities in line with Jhpiego, MOH, USAID, and PEPFAR standards.
- Capacity Building: Collaborate with RHMTs and CHMTs to build the capacity of healthcare providers to deliver safe, quality VMMC services.
- Promote a CQI Mindset: Strengthen Work Improvement Teams (WITs) and Quality Improvement Teams (QITs) across the healthcare system, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Mentorship and Support: Guide council health managers in incorporating VMMC into routine CQI activities, ensuring timely identification and management of VMMC adverse events (AEs).
- Data-Driven Insights: Analyze performance data, using the Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) Framework to inform strategies that promote continuous improvement in service quality.
- Reporting and Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to work plan development, reports, presentations, and publications, sharing insights and lessons learned at national and donor meetings.
Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in medicine, nursing, public health, or a related field, or extensive experience in managing quality assurance initiatives.
- At least 7 years of experience in implementing quality assurance and improvement programs, preferably in HIV prevention.
- Experience with VMMC and PEPFAR/USAID-funded projects is highly desirable.
- A strong ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, regional health officials, and other stakeholders.
- Proven experience in managing quality improvement teams and facilitating training to build capacity.
- Excellent communication skills in both Kiswahili and English, with the ability to prepare reports and deliver presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and readiness to travel up to 40% of the time.
