Project Overview

This opportunity comes as part of the Reaching Impact, Saturation, and Epidemic Control (RISE) Project, funded by the PEPFAR and USAID to support voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) services across Tanzania, including Iringa, Morogoro, Njombe, Singida, and Tabora regions. The project collaborates with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Regional Health Management Teams (RHMTs), making a vital contribution to HIV prevention and epidemic control in the country.

Key Responsibilities

As the Digital Health Software Developer, you will play a crucial role in:

  • Developing and customizing software to enhance data management and health systems, especially the District Health Information System version 2 (DHIS2) and mobile health platforms.
  • Building custom applications and integrating systems to streamline health service delivery.
  • Collaborating with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team to gather requirements and create solutions that improve the project’s data management capabilities.
  • Developing data models, scripts, and automation tools for reporting and analysis, ensuring high data quality and efficiency.
  • Creating reports, dashboards, and visualizations using tools like Power BI to provide real-time insights into VMMC service delivery.
  • Providing technical support and conducting training for project staff to ensure smooth system operation.
  • Ensuring data security and compliance with both national and international regulations.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this position, you will need:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with 3+ years of experience in software development, especially DHIS2 and mobile health solutions.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, SQL, and experience with Java/J2EE, Spring, Struts, and web development frameworks.
  • Proficiency in databases such as MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and developing Android Package Kit (APK) components.
  • Knowledge of SOA design, web services (REST, SOAP, JSON), and data modeling.
  • Experience in agile methodologies and a track record of training others in software applications.
  • Excellent communication skills in both Kiswahili and English, with the ability to present technical information in a user-friendly way.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 20% of the time.
