Role: GBV Prevention and Advocacy AssistantPositions Available: 3
Location: Kasulu/Kibondo, Tanzania

Application Deadline: 16th October 2024 Overall Purpose of the Role: The GBV Prevention and Advocacy Assistant works under the supervision of the GBV Team Leader and in collaboration with the GBV Prevention and Advocacy Officer. The role focuses on implementing prevention and risk reduction activities in host villages near Nyarugusu and Nduta refugee camps. The assistant is responsible for community mobilization, training, and awareness-raising initiatives to prevent GBV in refugee and local communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Reduction: Participate in identifying and reducing risks to women, men, boys, and girls in refugee camps and host communities through GBV safety audits and situational analysis.
- Awareness & Training: Conduct outreach, awareness, and training activities on GBV issues affecting different demographics in collaboration with the GBV Prevention & Advocacy Officer.
- Community Engagement: Support community mobilization efforts, engaging men in accountable practices and facilitating timely referrals for GBV survivors.
- Event Participation: Assist in organizing international events like the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
- Advocacy: Participate in key sector meetings to advocate for gender inclusion and the safety of women and girls.
- Data Management: Collaborate with M&E and GBV Information Management officers to collect and analyze program data.
- Program Support: Assist in preparing work plans, reports, and the development of program budgets and proposals.
- Risk Monitoring: Support risk monitoring and the implementation of interventions to reduce GBV risks in camps and host communities.
- Training Support: Build knowledge among social workers and community groups to promote GBV awareness, prevention, and response.
Data Collection and Reporting:
M&E Collaboration: Work closely with the M&E department to participate in GBV assessments and ensure the systematic use of M&E tools.Report Preparation: Submit timely and accurate reports on activities conducted.
Common Duties:
Attend relevant training sessions.Follow new organizational guidelines.
Report violations of DRC's Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Code of Conduct.
Represent DRC in interagency meetings as assigned.
Experience and Technical Competencies:
Experience: 1-2 years of experience in protection, particularly in humanitarian or refugee contexts.Knowledge of GBV prevention, case management, and community mobilization activities.
Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Experience working in an emergency context is desirable.
High initiative, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies or a relevant field from a recognized institution is preferred.Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken English and Swahili. Kirundi is an added advantage.Key Stakeholders:
