Aga Khan University (AKU) is looking for a Plant Nursery/Reforestation and Farm Manager to lead our green initiatives in Arusha. This role is crucial to maintaining a healthy ecosystem, promoting sustainable land use, and enhancing the landscape for future generations.


🌱 Job Highlights:

As the Plant Nursery/Reforestation and Farm Manager, you will:

  • Spearhead reforestation efforts, including managing tree planting and scheduling pruning.
  • Oversee nursery operations, from sapling growth to community training.
  • Enhance the Arusha site’s microclimate, protect against soil erosion, and manage water resources.
  • Direct agricultural activities, ensuring sustainable crop production and maintaining a thriving farm environment.
  • Work closely with our coffee team, landscape staff, and community stakeholders to build a sustainable, green future.                                                                                                                            key responsibilities:

  1. Organize tree planting, pruning, and harvesting operations.
  2. Grow and maintain indigenous tree saplings in the nursery.
  3. Manage irrigation systems (sprinklers, drip, and furrow) and maintain farming equipment.
  4. Develop community training programs on sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
  5. Supervise and train staff to ensure the highest standards in farming practices.
  6. Collaborate with teams to ensure all greenery, including coffee plantations, is well-maintained.

Your Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in plant nursery management, reforestation, or agricultural management.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of sustainable practices, excellent team leadership, and knowledge of irrigation systems.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in Kiswahili and English, with excellent communication skills.
