Position Overview:
The Senior Electrical Protection Engineer at the Stigler’s Gorge Project will be responsible for the design, scope, and specification of protection systems in substations. This role involves developing secondary system designs, creating design standards, and providing technical support for high-voltage power system network assets. The engineer will also ensure compliance with protection system designs and settings, while contributing to network security obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide conceptual and preliminary designs for substation automation and control systems.
- Develop and apply protection system designs and evaluate devices.
- Maintain secondary system design standards and provide solutions for standard and non-standard protection systems.
- Specify and provide operational instructions for protection equipment to design, construction, and maintenance teams.
- Calculate, review, and test protection and control settings, ensuring configurations comply with required standards.
- Develop and maintain protection design philosophies and practices.
- Offer technical support to other departments within JVACEE.
- Plan engineering project deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Conduct engineering investigations and risk assessments, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and contribute to network security.
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (essential).
- Experience with medium and low voltage switchgear, testing, and commissioning (essential).
- Previous experience with ABB protection relays for transmission lines, transformers, and generators (essential).
- Experience with power transformer testing.
- A minimum of 5+ years of progressive working experience.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours if required.
