In Tanzania, our efforts focus on Dodoma and Singida regions, promoting gender equality as a core strategy for sustainable outcomes in nutrition, WASH, and surveillance programs.
Position Overview
Job Title: Communications Officer
Location: Tanzania
Reports To: Advocacy, Communication, and Partnership Team
Key Focus: Elevate the organization’s visibility, strengthen media relations, and drive impactful communication strategies that align with organizational goals.
Purpose of the Role
The Communications Officer will play an instrumental role in producing high-quality communication materials to highlight the impact of our programs. These materials will cater to diverse audiences, including donors, partners, and stakeholders. The position involves close collaboration with teams at local, regional, and headquarters levels, ensuring the production of compelling content and smooth execution of media-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Content Development and Management:
- Create engaging materials such as documentaries, factsheets, case studies, social media posts, and press releases.
- Regularly update the organization’s website and social platforms with high-impact content.
- Ensure all communication outputs are aligned with the organization’s branding and messaging standards.
2. Media and Public Relations:
- Maintain a comprehensive database of media contacts for effective outreach and engagement.
- Develop and execute social media strategies to enhance visibility.
- Collaborate with technical teams to prepare media presentations and public event materials.
3. Internal Communications:
- Produce newsletters and other materials to keep staff informed of organizational updates and achievements.
4. Advocacy and External Communications:
- Build relationships with journalists and media outlets to secure coverage of Action Against Hunger’s initiatives.
- Create advocacy materials that promote policy changes and reflect humanitarian, peace, and development goals.
5. Budget and Reporting:
- Support communication budget planning and ensure efficient resource allocation.
- Track media coverage, monitor public engagement, and produce reports to refine strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related fields.
Experience:
- 3–5 years in a communications role, ideally within a humanitarian or NGO context.
- Demonstrated ability to create and implement communication strategies effectively.
- Proficiency in digital and traditional media, with expertise in graphic design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and video editing software.
Skills:
- Strong photography and videography skills.
- Advanced social media management and analytics experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions and Requirements
