Exciting Career Opportunities at TAWA – December 2024

The Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA), established under GN. No. 135 on May 9, 2014, operates as an autonomous entity responsible for overseeing wildlife resources outside the boundaries of National Parks and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Originally managed by the Wildlife Division under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, TAWA now independently focuses on the conservation and management of these critical areas.

TAWA's primary mandate is to implement the Wildlife Conservation Act No. 5 of 2009 and its associated regulations. This mission is driven by the urgent need to combat wildlife crimes, including poaching, and the illegal trade of ivory, rhino horns, and other wildlife products. Such activities have severely impacted wildlife populations in Tanzania, especially African elephants. TAWA intensifies its efforts by enhancing law enforcement, conducting anti-poaching operations, protecting communities from problem animals, and rigorously inspecting trophies at entry and exit points to curb illegal wildlife trafficking.
