Job Overview

Unitrans Tanzania Limited is seeking a dedicated Assistant Contract Manager to oversee, manage, and optimize operational activities on the sugar estate. This role involves supporting the contract management process, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining exceptional client relationships. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and a solid understanding of agriculture and contract operations.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Develop and submit an operations budget in the prescribed format, meeting all deadlines.
  • Monitor revenue and expenditure to ensure alignment with budgeted targets.
  • Manage cane haulage operations, including mechanical harvesting and ancillary activities (e.g., road maintenance, canals and drains excavation, bulldozing, crop spraying, and fertilizer application).
  • Ensure optimum driver and vehicle utilization while achieving daily delivery requirements.
  • Maintain daily communication with operations management staff.
  • Ensure all fleet vehicles meet legal compliance standards and are well-maintained.

Customer Relations

  • Foster and maintain exceptional relationships with clients.
  • Address and resolve problems or complaints in a timely and mutually beneficial manner.

Compliance and Quality Management

  • Adhere to health and safety legislation and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with quality management policies.
  • Analyze vehicle maintenance data to improve operational efficiency.

Administrative Duties

  • Approve and verify all monthly 4B reports.
  • Monitor and manage financial, administrative, operational, and human resource systems.
  • Achieve and exceed revenue targets on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • 3–5 years of senior supervisory experience, preferably in the agricultural industry.
  • Knowledge of Tanzania labour legislation and health and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with organizational management systems and relevant software, including RTK and GIS.
