Mission and Objectives

The UN Resident Coordinator serves as the UN Secretary-General's representative in Tanzania, coordinating the efforts of the UN Country Team (UNCT), which is comprised of 23 UN Agencies.

This position aims to bolster communication and visibility efforts within the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO). By combining communication and design expertise, the Communications Associate will play a pivotal role in showcasing the UN’s contributions to sustainable development in Tanzania.


Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Head of UNRCO and direct supervision of the National Information Officer, the Communications Associate will:

Content Creation:

  • Develop engaging materials such as social media posts, press releases, and articles to promote UN development activities.
  • Capture UN events and initiatives through photography, videography, and visual storytelling.
  • Draft and edit newsletters, reports, and other communication materials.
  • Manage content for the UN Tanzania website and social platforms.

Graphic Design:

  • Design banners, booklets, reports, and other visual materials, adhering to UN branding standards.
  • Enhance the accessibility and appeal of communication materials.

Media Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Track media coverage and public perception of UN initiatives.
  • Compile summaries and reports on relevant topics like SDGs and development assistance.
  • Measure communication reach and engagement metrics.

Other Duties:

  • Contribute to broader communication strategies as required.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Open to Tanzanian nationals or legal residents.
Age: 18–80 years.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years in communications, media, or graphic design.
  • Familiarity with social media management and photojournalism is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Proficient in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and social media tools with analytics.
  • Competency in photo editing is desirable.
  • Strong creativity and the ability to collaborate in a multicultural environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Media Studies, or related fields.

Languages:

  • Fluent in English (required).
  • Swahili fluency is advantageous.
