About the Project

The USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora Activity aims to enhance Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services. Our goal is to ensure sustained access to quality, affordable health commodities and strengthen the capacity of local institutions and systems for sustainable management. We also focus on improving pharmaceutical management systems, promoting quality pharmaceutical services, and bolstering regulatory frameworks at the national level.


Position Overview

Role: Senior Accountant
Reports To: Director of Finance and Operations

JSI is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Accountant to join the USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora Activity team in Tanzania. This full-time position is critical to ensuring financial efficiency, compliance, and accountability within the project.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Process and review all accounting transactions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to JSI policies and procedures.
  • Track budgets and ensure compliance with donor and statutory regulations.
  • Maintain a transparent and well-organized financial record-keeping system.

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable government taxation laws and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports and submit them to the Director of Finance and Operations for review.
  • Monitor financial activities to ensure alignment with project goals and donor expectations.

Operational Support:

  • Assist in developing and monitoring project budgets.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of accounts and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Provide input to financial audits and respond to any audit queries.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Finance and Operations Director to implement sound financial systems and practices.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external partners to facilitate seamless financial operations.
  • Support training and capacity-building initiatives related to financial management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
  • Professional certification such as CPA or ACCA is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in financial management, ideally within international development organizations or donor-funded projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Tanzanian financial regulations, including taxation and statutory requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment and meet tight deadlines.
