Role Overview
The Driver will support Mercy Corps’ operations by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of staff and materials while maintaining high standards of professionalism and adherence to Mercy Corps policies. As a key team member, the Driver will also contribute to maintaining fleet integrity and delivering operational support in compliance with all regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Mercy Corps program vehicles to transport staff, visitors, and materials safely and efficiently.
- Ensure vehicles are well-maintained, clean, and fully operational, including conducting regular checks on oil, fuel, brakes, lights, tires, and other components.
- Adhere to Mercy Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and traffic regulations at all times.
- Deliver packages, documents, and materials to designated offices and locations as required.
- Perform long-distance trips as needed, ensuring proper planning and compliance with all rules.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and service schedules, and report any mechanical issues promptly to the supervisor.
- Ensure all required vehicle documents, such as insurance and road licenses, are updated and available.
- Assist program staff with logistics support when necessary.
- Document and report any incidents, accidents, or irregularities promptly.
- Follow protocols in the event of vehicle breakdowns or accidents and cooperate with relevant authorities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
- Minimum Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) [Form Four Certificate].
Experience:
- At least 8 years of driving experience with international organizations, with proficiency in operating 4WD manual vehicles in diverse terrains.
- A valid Class C Driving License is mandatory.
- Trade Test Grade II or Driver Grade II Certificate from recognized institutions like NIT or VETA is an added advantage.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
- Excellent driving skills and a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and service requirements.
- Integrity, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality.
- Basic computer skills are an added advantage.
