Travel Requirement: 50% within operational areas

Primary Purpose of the Role
The HSS Officer is tasked with implementing day-to-day Health, Safety, and Security functions across NRC operations in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
- Adhere to NRC policies, tools, and guidelines.
- Assist with the implementation of HSS functions under the guidance of the Area Manager and Regional HSS staff.
- Prepare HSS status reports and ensure proper documentation within the Tanzania Filing Tree.
- Promote improvements to the HSS support function.
Specific Responsibilities
- Develop and regularly update HSS-related documents and templates.
- Implement policies and processes for evacuations, security audits, drills, and more.
- Support Safety Risk Assessments (SRA) for new locations.
- Conduct NRC Minimum Operating Standards for Safety (MOISS) assessments for Kibondo premises and address identified gaps.
- Deliver HSS awareness sessions to staff, as directed by Area Manager and RO HSS team.
- Assist in conducting mandatory security training, such as HEIST.
- Prepare situation reports using prescribed templates.
- Assess the safety of frequently used roads and hotels, seeking formal approvals where necessary.
- Participate in Crisis Management Teams (CMT) and coordinate training sessions with RO and HQ support.
Qualifications and Competencies
Professional Competencies
- Experience in a support function within humanitarian or recovery contexts.
- Familiarity with complex and volatile environments.
- Demonstrated success in roles requiring similar responsibilities.
- Basic proficiency in English.
Contextual Skills
- Deep knowledge of Kigoma region, including Kibondo and Kasulu districts.
- Strong report-writing skills in English.
- Effective communication in both English and Kiswahili.

Performance Management at NRC
This role will align with NRC's performance management systems, including:
- Regular performance reviews.
- End-of-trial and end-term evaluations.
