Exciting Opportunity: Assistant Data Analyst – Meteorological Agricultural at IITA

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), on behalf of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to join the ResComm II project as an Assistant Data Analyst – Meteorological Agricultural. This critical role contributes to improving food security and livelihoods in central Tanzania through innovative analysis of meteorological and agricultural data.

Duty Station:

The position is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) role.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather, clean, and analyze meteorological data (e.g., rainfall patterns, temperature trends) to assess agricultural impacts in central Tanzania.
  • Evaluate agricultural datasets, including crop yields, soil quality, and farming practices, to determine the effects of agroecological strategies on smallholder farmers.
  • Conduct statistical analyses to identify trends, correlations, and actionable insights that inform the ResComm II project.
  • Create detailed reports and visualizations to present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Support field data collection through surveys, interviews, and site visits, ensuring accuracy and relevance of the data.
  • Facilitate effective communication and coordination within the project team and external collaborators.
  • Undertake additional tasks as directed by the national coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, agriculture, environmental science, statistics, or a closely related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in data analysis or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools, such as Excel, R, Python, or specialized software for meteorological and agricultural datasets.
  • Solid experience working with meteorological and agricultural data, including statistical analysis.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Previous experience in development projects involving meteorological and agricultural analysis is a plus.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of remote sensing technologies for agricultural and meteorological data.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on developing data-driven solutions.
  • Basic project management skills, including effective timeline management and coordination of data activities.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and organized with excellent time management skills.

General Information:

  • Contract Duration: Two years, renewable based on performance and funding.
  • Remuneration: IITA offers a competitive package for this nationally recruited position.
