About the Role

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented professional to join our Dar es Salaam office as a Programme Assistant. This is your chance to contribute to impactful projects that advance decent work and social justice in Tanzania and the region.

The Programme Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of programmes and projects under the ILO Country Office. The position requires high-level organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders, including government bodies, UN agencies, and social partners.


Key Responsibilities

As a Programme Assistant, your duties will include:

  • Supporting the planning and preparation of the Office’s work programme and project initiatives.
  • Monitoring project proposals and deliverables, ensuring compliance with ILO’s rules and regulations.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and presenting data on work programme budgets, staffing, and project outcomes.
  • Managing administrative actions and ensuring accurate data input into the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
  • Assisting in organizing workshops, seminars, meetings, and other events.
  • Maintaining and updating databases while generating periodic reports, briefing notes, and statistical summaries.
  • Responding to general queries and providing information on programme and project activities.
  • Staying updated on programme-related policies and sharing relevant updates with stakeholders.
  • Offering general office management support, including drafting correspondence and attending meetings.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school education is mandatory.
  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in social sciences, economics, political science, international relations, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least five years of experience in office support, programme support, and project administration.
  • Experience working with an ERP system is essential.
  • Prior experience with UN agencies, government offices, or international organizations is highly desirable.

Languages:

  • Fluency in both English and Kiswahili is required.

Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of programme and project administration principles, including results-based management (RBM).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to adapt quickly to new software systems.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a multicultural environment while demonstrating gender sensitivity and inclusivity.

Employment Conditions

  • Salary: Entry-level salary of 51,835,000 TZS annually.
  • This position is subject to local recruitment regulations. Only Tanzanian nationals are eligible to apply.
