Role Summary:
The Tax Manager position is an integral role within the Finance Department, aligning with its vision of becoming a “True Business Partner & Reference Finance Organization.” This position is pivotal in minimizing the company’s tax risks and ensuring proactive compliance with all statutory obligations.

The Tax Manager will report directly to the Financial Controller while collaborating closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Tax Compliance and Management:

    • Oversee and manage the company’s tax risks, ensuring full compliance with tax laws, NSSF contributions, mining royalties, city levies, and other statutory obligations.
    • Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), NSSF, mining councils, and local authorities.
  2. Primary Liaison Role:

    • Act as the principal point of contact with tax consultants and legal advisors.
    • Monitor consultant performance and costs to ensure value for money.
  3. Accurate and Timely Statutory Returns:

    • Prepare all statutory returns, including transfer pricing documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  4. Tax Processing and Payments:

    • Ensure timely and accurate deductions and remittances of taxes and other statutory payments to the relevant authorities.
  5. Tax Accounting in General Ledger (GL):

    • Maintain accurate accounting for tax and statutory obligations in SAP ERP.
    • Reconcile accounts, including key reconciliations like Sales to VAT, on a proactive monthly basis.
  6. Management of Tax Audits:

    • Facilitate smooth execution of tax audits from TRA and other bodies, including mining councils and NSSF.
    • Oversee the preparation and resolution of audit findings.
  7. Tax Disputes and Appeals:

    • Support resolution of pending tax exposures at objection or appeals stages, including TRAB, TRAT, and Court of Appeal cases.
  8. Tax Records Management:

    • Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date records of all tax and statutory payments made by the company since its inception.
  9. Strategic Analysis and Other Duties:

    • Conduct strategic reviews and analysis of company tax obligations as assigned by the Financial Controller or CFO.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Technical Expertise:

  • A graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, with 6-8 years of experience in finance or audit.
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACA, ACCA, or a specialized tax certification.
  • Strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly SAP, with a willingness to enhance expertise within a year.
