Position Summary

We are seeking a Midwife Supervisor to oversee clinical activities and ensure the delivery of high-quality midwifery care at our Liwale project in Lindi. The role involves supervising midwifery services in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) at selected health facilities, supporting maternal and child healthcare.


Key Responsibilities

  • Team Supervision: Manage and evaluate midwives, assistants, and support staff, including planning work schedules, supervising clinical activities, and promoting teamwork across departments.
  • Clinical Oversight: Supervise maternity services in peripheral health facilities, including antenatal, delivery, postnatal care, family planning, and vaccinations. Collaborate with the Medical Doctor for patient care requiring specialized attention.
  • Hygiene Standards: Ensure adherence to universal hygiene protocols, infection prevention measures, and bio-hazard precautions within medical premises.
  • Equipment and Supplies Management: Monitor medical device usage, ensure minor maintenance is conducted, and oversee stock levels of essential supplies.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of clinical activities, patient data, and departmental reports to reflect overall performance and achievements.
  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Support: Train maternity staff to identify and provide care to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, following established protocols.

Specific Context and Project Overview

Since December 2022, MSF’s Liwale project has been supporting seven health facilities in the district, providing integrated maternal and child healthcare services. This includes:

  • Community-based, primary, and secondary care.
  • Recruitment and empowerment of healthcare workers.
  • Support for medical supplies, training, quality care improvement, referrals, and facility rehabilitation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Diploma in Midwifery with a valid midwifery license to practice.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years in a supervisory or in-charge role.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet use.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Kiswahili (both written and spoken).
