Your Role as a Country Representative
As the Country Representative, you will report to the Regional Director (East & Southern Africa) and oversee UN Women’s strategy, partnerships, and operations in Tanzania. You will also work closely with the UN Resident Coordinator to support UN-wide gender equality efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
🔹 Strategic Leadership & Program Development:
Drive the design and implementation of UN Women’s Country Strategic Note (2023-2027).
Align programs with Tanzania’s national priorities, SDGs, and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).
Provide high-level advisory support to government, civil society, and donor partners.
🔹 Operational Management:
Oversee the execution of the country program, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and impact.
Manage financial resources, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Lead workforce planning, recruitment, and talent development of a diverse team.
Ensure adherence to UN Women’s ethics, policies, and zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.
🔹 UN Coordination & Advocacy:
Actively engage in the UN Country Team (UNCT) to integrate gender equality into all UN programming.
Advocate for gender-responsive policies, financing strategies, and legal frameworks.
Represent UN Women in high-level forums, dialogues, and media engagements.
🔹 Partnerships & Resource Mobilization:
Develop and implement innovative resource mobilization strategies.
Strengthen partnerships with government agencies, donors, civil society, and the private sector.
Drive fundraising efforts to ensure sustainable program financing.
🔹 Security & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with UN security policies, prioritizing the safety of personnel and assets.
Serve as a Security Management Team (SMT) member, contributing to risk assessment and crisis response.
What We’re Looking For
📌 Education & Certifications:
✔ Master’s degree in Development Studies, Economics, Public Policy, or Social Sciences.
✔ A Project/Program Management Certification (PMP®, PRINCE2®, MSP®) is an added advantage.
📌 Experience & Skills:
✔ Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in international development, preferably in gender and women’s rights.
✔ Proven expertise in strategic planning, policy advocacy, and program execution.
✔ Experience leading and coaching multicultural teams in complex environments.
✔ Strong financial acumen and resource mobilization skills.
✔ Advanced knowledge of UN system processes and inter-agency coordination.
✔ Fluency in English required; knowledge of Swahili and other UN languages is desirable.
